Dear Friends!
I was born in Armenia and I live more than 70 years. I had a severe childhood, because I have grown up as an orphan: my mother died early and my father was a soldier of WWII. When I was six years old boy I played the duduk for the first time. I had no musical education and I learnt everything myself, listening the performances of Great Masters. I had opportunity to appear on the stage of the Big Theatre, to have solo concerts in the largest concert halls, to play in restaurants, to work as a professor and accompanist in the Yerevan State Conservatory. I think that I have done everything for popularizing this instrument in all over the world, for making the people love and understand the sense of duduk. But anyway, it seems to me that there is something unfinished. I want to open my own school. First of all, I will take orphans in my school and will learn them to play the duduk free of charge. I am sure that there ought to be talented ones among them, since they have tasted the bitterness of this life. I will be happy if my work finds continuation. Let them deal with the unfinished works of Vache, Levon, Karo and Jivan. I wish that the small part of my inspiration, soul and skills remain with people, that they could hold it in their hands, present their children, grandsons or relatives. I have many recorded songs, but I think it is not enough. My friends from the “Sharm” company have given me an idea and have helped me to realize it… The well-known masters of duduk have made 1000 examples of this instrument and I have tuned them personally and breathe new life into them. Be sure that you will feel my love to you holding this instrument in your hands. By the way, in the “Sharm” company I was told to prepare some explanatory materials. So it was decided to make the “Armenian Duduk from Djivan Gasparyan” collection, which includes one information booklet telling the history of duduk creation and the legends about this ancient instrument; CD recorded of my compositions and of well-known contemporary duduk players - Levon Madoyan, Vache Hovsepyan, as well as original compositions executed by the famous jazz and ethno-folk musicians. DVD recorded of a music video after the “Msho Gorani” music and of a film translated in 4 languages, where I tell interesting stories about duduk. By the way, returning to my great wish - to the foundation of the school that I told you beforehand, the part of income received from the sale of the “ARMENIAN DUDUK from Djivan Gasparyan” will be sent for the duduk school construction of Djivan Gasparyan. When the construction of the school is over and when I see a six years old child playing with his first duduk in the classroom, probably, I will say: “I did everything what I wanted and could”. Djivan Gasparyan
